Your inducer draft motor has a very important function in your heating system. It’s role is to move air and gases out of the heat exchanger/firebox and out through the venting installed on your heating system usually to the roof or outside to open air. As long as that motor is working properly your heating system will run as designed with proper combustion air.
When a furnace with an inducer motor starts a cycle the first component to turn on is your inducer motor. Which will usually run for 30-45 seconds before closing a vacuum switch which signals your circuit board or control module that your inducer motor is working properly. If your inducer motor does not turn on or spin fast enough to create vacuum pressure your heating system will never fire up or attempt to ignite, causing your system to attempt a few more times then eventually locking out for your safety.
Any blockage in the venting can cause issues with your furnace causing it to not turn on. Your heating system is designed for safety, so if there is one part that is not working the way it should it will shut the gas off to your central heating system.
A new Inducer Draft Motor replacement cost can range between $480-$1400. It all depends on the model and make of your heater and shipping charges. Some high efficiency furnaces come equipped with costly draft motors with no option for after market replacements.
