Need to replace your bad Blower Motor?
Before attempting to replace a bad blower motor on your furnace/air handler or packaged roof top unit it is recommended to have a professional HVAC Technician diagnose the issue for you.
Here are a few factors that determine the price of your blower motor:
- Capacitor
- Brand of Manufacturer
- Year Heater was Manufactured
- Type of motor and mounting
- “Squirrel Cage” the part that carries the air known as “The Fan”
- Are you being quoted on OEM or After Market Replacement
- No more OEM Motors available HVAC Tech has to find a match (proper RPM’s, Horsepower and Voltage)
- Size of your system, the bigger the home the bigger the blower motor in your Furnace/Air handler or packaged unit
- Shipping Charges, motor is available but out of state
To replace your blower motor the average cost can be between $480-$1800+
The blower Motor to your air conditioner draws air in through the return and gets cooled by your evaporator coil when running your air conditioner or it gets heated by the firebox/heat exchanger when running your heating system. That same air is then discharged through out your ductwork and into your living space.

What Happens When My Blower Stops Working?
- If it stops working in the winter while running your heater, your heating system will over heat until a safety switch in your unit turns your furnace off,
it can be dangerous. Your heat exchanger can over heat if your safety switches are not working properly and cause it to break in turn leaking carbon monoxide into your home - If it stops working in the summer while running your air conditioner, you will notice your air conditioner freeze over and start to make all kind of noises until the circuit breaker or a fuse blows. Within that time if the fuse or breaker to your system does not shut it off you run the risk of damaging your compressor which circulates the refrigerant throughout your system
How Often do Blower Motors Need to be Replaced?
There’s no set lifespan for blower motors, but they tend to fail more often in HVAC systems that are older. Age and brand are a big factor. Although we have seen blower motors fail within 1-5 years of being installed due to poor installation or improper return sizing. The amount of use a blower motor receives may also be a factor. Also, debris entering the HVAC system can destroy a blower motor regardless age causing it to run with extra weight on the squirrel cage/fan.
